Reflection Assignment for the Memo
I wrote a formal letter to the president of City College about an issue I thought he could fix. I chose to request that he put signs all over each floors of the NAC building pointing to where the escalators are because the whole building is a maze. It is a non-fiction problem, with non-fiction solutions, thoughts and names, however we didn’t actually send the memos to the president of the school. As soon as I heard the assignment, I immediately knew what I wanted to write about because the lack of signs around each of the floors at the NAC building were bothering me more every single day. I was motivated by the fact that with such a small problem with such a huge effect, there was a simple an effective solution. All that had to be done was paint signs, which someone just needed to bring to the president’s attention.
Since my audience was just the president, I feel that I did a good job making it clear and concise while also explaining what I thought he should do about the situation. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very convincing in my request, I feel that I could have found something more important to discuss with the president of the school, so in a sense I cared about the topic much more than the president would. I feel that this assignment has helped me in terms of putting me in my place… remind me I have to write 100% formal because usually in my writing I tend to insert myself personally. I feel that it has enhanced the way that I revise and edit my papers now considering four different people read my work, so for the future I will most likely have as many people reading my work to catch as many mistakes as I possibly can to make my writing the best it can be.
